Island Thyme Catering and Event Planning has been a dream and a goal for Vince Tomczak and Kristy VerSnyder for the past decade. Vince, originally from Flint, MI, is from a family with 11 siblings, so from a young age he learned his way around a kitchen by helping his mom. In his early 20s he became a chef and worked at The Desert Restaurant in Flint, where he perfected his culinary skills. In 2002 he moved to Leelanau County permanently and started his own business Peninsula Excavating and Landscaping. Island Thyme Catering is situated on his beautifully landscaped piece of property, which he started transforming in 2007. Vince has an immense pleasure in planning parties and events.

Kristy VerSnyder was born and raised in Leelanau County. Her mother was a chef at The Bluebird Restaurant in Leland, and her father a commercial fisherman for Carlson’s Fish Market in Leland. Food was the center of their family, from the preparation to the family dinner that ensued. She travelled to Marquette MI to earn her degree in Speech Communication, and while there met fabulous friends who loved to create and experiment in the kitchen. She has worked in the food and beverage industry since 1995 and has worn many hats: server, hostess, bartender, manager, prep cook, cook, and pastry chef. She has worked in several area restaurants including The Bluebird Restaurant and Bar, North Country Bar and Grill, Cafe Manitou, and 9 Bean Rows. Her passion is creating tasteful dishes and experimenting with food and flavors of the kitchen.
